After graduating from The University of Northampton in 2013 with a First Class Degree in Dance I was more than excited to get going with my Dance Career. That summer, for a third year I worked as a dance coach for Exsportise Ltd for 7weeks. This involved coaching international children throughout the week in preparation for their Friday dance show. A super fun job especially straight from university.
My initial plan from university was to gain more experience in a secondary school before applying to do my PGCE in dance the following year. Unbeknown to me the school I started at in September 2013 had had dance cut from their programmes- not cool! The teaching experience was still valuable though.
In November 2013 I ended up having a second heart operation. This in turn obviously meant time out from dance and anything remotely active- torture. However on the plus side it means I now have a normal heart for the first time in my life!
February 2014 saw the start of my training in Aerial Silks, something I now have such a passion for. We have a Performance on October 4th at Arlington Arts where I will be performing a solo, incorporating contemporary dance and aerial silks.
In July 2014 I returned to Exsportise for a fourth time to coach dance. Little did I know how much this was about to change my life. I was working on the dance programme with a guy called Jamie Neale, a recent graduate from Rambert. He was so passionate about his work, where he wanted to go and dance as an art in general. After a single conversation I was back and it had completely rubbed off on me. So after just a week working with such an inspirational person I was ready to start making, performing and training again.
I am currently saving to make the move to London around Christmas time and really give things a go. Living in Reading at the moment means I can’t even really go to a class without travelling to London so it all makes sense.
So here we are, Square one. I’m excited for what’s to come.
